It was mentioned that the curse was supposed to befall on the royal family but Alejandro was chosen as a sacrifice. Since it was originally the royal's sin it would make sense that the king is curious about it. Alejandro suddenly bought an aristocratic title for someone who had previously only worked as a maid and he's cold to everyone except her. I feel like almost all titles have to be bestowed by the king, even if bought so it would make sense for the king to piece it together.
