Same. I tried thinking that maybe the author was making it more tragic, like the seme became desensitized because of too many incidents of abuse. But the author just blamed it on the seme not having any particular interest or passion in life. I mean, having a go-w/-the-flow personality shouldn't mean having no pride/dignity/spine at all. I was crying out of frustration the whole time and couldn't fully enjoy the chapter.
