Even though I think the same way, I guess there are reasons...
As a reader, you can see both sides of the story, what each other is thinking, or wanting t do. Put yourself in his shoes for a sec. Seorim doesn't know if Prof. Gong would actually help out. And what's worse, he actually likes him. without knowing what the professor would think, Seorim might fear that he would get fired and prof would really despise him after that.
If I was him, I'd be scared to tell him too.
