I have the same theory as well. Physically not the princess but has her soul. I believe everytime the he dies he becomes someone else as punishment and her soul is the last life he will live. It was also the only time he was a female too. I think the actual princess is still alive, physically only.
Okay so- Valentine, before becoming an angel at all, must have been the princess. The princess died and she became an angel and forgot about everything. Then she was given the punishment of living out all those lives. So, now she’s here for her last life- the life she was born in before she even became an angel. Right??? Idk
