I don't understand why some people feel sorry for Rael. This has already been said before....

THIS. Even without the death aspect, Yunifer's allowed to NOT want to be friends with Rael. Seriously, if someone's being cold and not even hiding that she doesn't want to be friends with you, maybe it's time to choose another person to cling onto. It's not like they were friends before Yunifer decided to be cold to her. Rael's attachment has been one-sided for a long time so her clinginess is really annoying. Correct me if I’m recalling it wrong but I think they were friends in the original novel, as in the novel that Yunifer knows. In the current story, Yunifer chose to stay away from Rael right from the beginning because she knows her involvement with Rael will lead to her death. So in this current life, Yunifer and Rael were never friends.

It's true. In the novel (I mean in the original one) they were friends, but now that Yunifer is someone else on the inside, they weren't friends from the very beginning.

But they were roommates at a point though? And then Yunifer decided to change rooms very suddenly. I’m not sure but I don’t think Rael just randomly decided she wanted to be friends with Yunifer because they were roommates before and did hang out..

I went back and in ch30 in Ishid’s POV, Rael and Yunifer are talking about her moving rooms and switching roommates and in ch31, Yunifer and Rael are hanging out. And at one point where I don’t remember, Yunifer ran away from Rael when she was trying to talk to her. I’m not saying Rael shouldn’t take a hint, I just think it’s pretty upsetting to see someone who you thought was your friend to avoid you with no explanation.

Chapters 20 and 21 show more scenes from their school days. Yunifer was clearly uncomfortable when she saw Rael was her roommate. There was also a group discussion scene where Yunifer was “friendly” with her. I guess from Rael’s POV, Yunifer being kind to her (and being roommates for a while) meant they were friends already? But it seems like to Yunifer it wasn’t special and it was just a casual conversation between groupmates. Since Yunifer already knows the consequences of being friends with Rael, changing rooms and being cold to Rael probably wasn’t a sudden decision for her. She also thinks in one chapter that she and Rael weren’t even friends, so for her they really weren’t close. I do get your point though. I guess Rael was left hanging because she never found out why Yunifer avoided her. It must suck getting rejected by a person she admired, but it’s still really weird that she got too attached when the feeling wasn’t mutual to begin with.

It wasn’t Rael’s fault she died though. The og Yunifer bullied her and tried to hurt her. I think Rael is weird and creepy. I’ve been her shoes before where someone I thought was my friend just started avoiding and ignoring me with no explanation. I didn’t do everything that Rael is doing but I was definitely hurt by that. And I think Rael was also hurt like that too. I understand everyone’s point though
