There are already so many manga/manhwa where the higher status lead seemingly 'forgets' their role or just outright pushes it aside for love; but when in reality, as an adult, you would put great thought into your actions - especially is you're a king!
As for Paulina, she has nothing but admiration for him since he brought her out of her misery and into the happiness she experiences now (joy, fame, glory). Seeing your own position as just his royal guard from no noble background, you wouldn't ever consider yourself in a position to fall in love with the emperor.
Drop the manhwa if you will, but I'm staying for the ride!
