He's desi omgg

I've been reading mangas for my entire life. And this is my first time seeing a desi character omg. After being told my entire life that being brown is unattractive, this gorgeous character just appeared. I feel so represented rn. I'm just so excited lol

Yea with alot of tan characters they leave it really ambiguous, so this is really refreshing

Yep I'm honestly surprised. I thought ppl were gonna come for me for talking abt ethnicity. But I just felt so appreciated when I read the manga.

Yeah and it's used for pretty racist tropes half the time (slaves or "uncivilized" tribes the Japanese mc needs to teach how to be human -_- etc) so it's amazing seeing a character with for one an actual ethnicity and be treated like a person (tho I feel like we wouldn't get the same treatment if he wasn't half Japanese ) also that three languages thing made me laugh because living here three languages is minimum haha like if we went by my schooling alone I should be knowing seven languages by now (if I was a good student and actually studied them )

Well but they could be natives or islanders as well, I'm not here to discredit them. It's just rare for desi characters to be portrayed in mangas. Also I think that being able to speak 3 languages is very impressive to some countries that speak only one primary language. I just think there're diff standards to things, I also speak 3 languages but I've had the chance to learn them since young. That's why I still find it impressive for people to study a whole new language on their own.

Yes obviously it's different learning languages as a child n older also schools here teach foreign languages so half the languages come from that and I said this made me laugh cuz I obviously meant it as a joke not a critique it's also likely the character in this manga grew up in Japan itself since he's half and based there

Also the issue with dark skinned characters often/almost always being portrayed as slaves or uncivilized beings still stands and being natives or islanders isn't really an excuse it's the idea of dark skinned characters only being used when it is to show a made up tribe the MC has to teach to be proper humans, natives don't need to be "saved" by the western or eastern world so that's literally why colonialism was a thing

Yes I agree. I also find the uncivilized tribe people that ends up falling in love with their"saviour" trope very weird lmao. Like ok saviour complex.
