Don't hate on daddy duke too much He's actually a good father who didn't know how to express his sincerity towards Penelope. In fact, he's adorable in the end of the novel. It was because of Reynold framing Penelope and I guess the butler's doing why he ended up distancing from her. In truth, he also cared for the old penny but he wasn't able to show her that.
