But I think the reason the Duke ignored her is because he knew she would die when she turns 10 so he didn't want to get too attached to her.

Yea that is cruel but he probably didn't know what else to do. In chapter 0 it shows him crying and telling her not to die. soo... at least in "real life" he doesn't treat her like the novel anymore.
Yeah I'll just wait to see how their relationship will develop
but I still don't really like him.. The fact that he would just ignore his own daughter until the day she died and then immediately adopt another girl and be affectionate with her didn't sit well with me. If the MC didn't "change" her behavior he would just completely act like she didn't exist and that pisses me off but I'm waiting for his redemption
