The character development always comes after something bad happens or the seme's realisation that the uke can go without him, doing better in life without him, etc. Also i think it's too soon for that cuz there are a lot of arguments unresolved and secrets to be revealed. I think that after all that the character development will come. Also now i think it's starting to get interesting for the people like you who are sceptical about this manga. So my advice is to not give up on this just yet. Try to be a little bit more patient and open minded.
