I mean, it was a thing in the past. Noble's servants may or may not be lower ranking nobles, but the royal's servants are most definitely nobles, and quite a noble at that. That's why if a peasant was to work for royal, it was an extremely great honor at the time.

I just remembered Felix is from a Ducal house so the man with red and gray hair is most definitely his father considering he's in the pro-emperor faction. That would mean Felix's mom is a Duchess but then why was she a servant in the palace? The reason why Felix's mother was Claude's nanny is because nobles are actually praised for working in the palace. It's an honor of the sorts to be able to serve royalty and gain recognition/status/wealth in return. This is why the maids and servants in Athy's palace when she was younger were all nobility. Judging from their personalities of indifference and ignorance in taking care of a baby, they definitely only applied for the job for the benefits alone.
