I'm thinking of another directing that the lie counter thing could go... like... the guy could see someone with a huge number of lies that goes up a lot every morning and be observing him but he's never actually seen his number go up in person.... and the lies that he told were actually lies he told himself when he was reassuring himself of something (like "it'll be alright" or "im not sad") and then the guy learns of the other guy's dark past and everything and such n such
