To me personally doesn’t affect me much. I draw and create some characters for a personal comic so that might be why I just see them as characters. Is really interesting seeing how people are really invested in these characters that artists create. I’m not disagreeing with you, some people really care and are affected by these characters which I find interesting. To me as I read the story I’m more focus on criticizing the development, art, etc. I guess cuz that’s just me since I like to create stories and characters.

I understand u. Actually I have characters on my own as well and wanna make my own webtoon one day (it’s gonna be dark af too). I get invested in story and characters cause they kinda also mirror things that happen in real life. So normalizing or sexualizing for example rape or romanticizing abuse in relationships (which a lot of Yaoi and fans do) is really messed up to me since I actually know a victims of it. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a fiction since how I said same thing happens in reality and also that fiction affects actual relationships

I see what you mean. There have been people who have experienced certain things that manga portrays really badly like you say. Yaoi does tend to use abuse really bad. I have only once really been kind of really felt bad for reading a manga. It was called something like in the hands of a merciless god.

This manga portrays and starts the story of how a young teen is abused by an older man. I felt so disgusted and angry. You see the character show signs of trauma. After finishing I actually wanted to kill the bastard in the story that abused the main character. For three days I just felt so sad. Guess when I was younger I would read anything with the word yaoi. But, now as older I just stop reading a manga if they continue to use certain topics and don’t handle them well. Mostly because I get irritated cuz honestly is 1 in a million to find a manga that has actual good writing.

I don’t have a problem with showing abuse, I have a problem with normalizing it. Yaoi and fans sexualize and romanticize this behavior and that’s the only thing I’m not okay with. It’s alright to show it as something bad but that is actually praised.
