
not quite sure if i’m right but i think it’s because she doesn’t know what these women are feeling because she has lived so differently. and she just wants to understand even a little bit. so when she’s thinking about all of these women and what they were saying and what kind of gifts it’s like “do i know? will i ever know” kind of thing. i could be wrong

I also feel like it’s because Paulina is realizing what other women have to go through and realizing that they have dreams that can never be achieved because women are only valued as wives and mothers in this empire. She’s seeing the “wall” that women would have to climb to lead a different life, and realizing it’s nearly impossible to climb it.
