So I only read spoilers myself but he was so insistent on staying neutral that he never felt anything for her. With her death, he realize dhow useful of a person she was and regrets that he didn't make nice with her. Thats why now in this second life he appears to feel guilty and appears to love her because even though he doesn't actually remember, he knows somewhere deep down he needs her on his side. She apparently never forgives him which like you go girl
