is he dumb or is he playing dumb

Idt he is dumb. He was obsessing about being seen as a kid when he wanted to impress Dr Han in the beginning of the chapter. He did finally dress up a bit but Dr Han thought he just finished class so that kinda killed his confidence. Then boom out of no where it seems Dr Han says he'd like to hang out more and his inner lack of confidence blurts out how about soccer!!?
