I don’t think it was because the duke was jealous exactly I thought the other guy was actually busy and couldn’t make it?
Yes the duke came instead of Wright because he is busy, then the Duke asked why cant he be the one, Ripley rebuked him about how Wright is the better choice than the duke, (coz one of the reasons is she want to pair her friend, Etoile with sir Wright) then here , because of that slight comment, i think the duke kinda irritated and jealous.
I don’t want any hate but isn’t it kinda the dukes fault as well? Cause Ripley original plan was to have Etoile be set up with the duke friend/assistant. But, because the duke got jealous, he offered himself instead. Although if this is the duke revenge against ripley well I guess I see why you all like how she’s “suffering” at the moment
