i feel like this is mogari’s backstory. The friendly guy probably gets killed, then mogari, maybe because of guilt, takes and copies his friends’ happy and silly attitude. Which is why mogari is like that now with eugene and the others?

I swear we've seen the friend alive in the present time. I don't think he died, maybe he was put in a coma. Or mogari's family is going to threaten his friends family business.
