I really sympathize with the dad but it was still wrong of him to rob the mom of her agency and choice in the situation. She died without knowing the truth :(
If it’s going the way I think it’s going then it’s still not fair for him to have robbed her of the choice of their relationship in the wake of his illness but maybe it’s not going the way I think it is ╮(￣▽￣)╭

Their main problem is that due to their childhood trauma they just quite literally did not communicate and tbh that was equally on both of them but also on neither of them because genuinely how were they supposed to know better
Like yes they were coddled, but they didn’t really do anything wrong when they weren’t being manipulated or taking advantage of Lucie. However, the latter was extremely normalized for the prince by literally everyone around him. How was he supposed to know better? When things did blow up in their faces they immediately decided they weren’t suited for their positions on their own too
