Even though his father treated him like shit he was still excited to show him that he won so he can finally receive some sort of acceptance. Seeing your own father die like that is so traumatic. Not only does he never get recognition from him, he was never able to prove himself to the one he wanted to the most. That must feel so unsatisfyingly empty.. poor baby
