Depends on what happened in my opinion. Did your grandfather almost do something but stopped himself? Or did he want to do it but someone else stopped him? and what was it he was going to do?
If he was about to hit her but stopped himself and never did it again - I'd say that is fine - well it's not fine, but getting caught up in extreme emotions ......
