Back when I was reading this in 2024, there's tons of haters but I guess they don't realize that she's doing it for survival. From where and what year she is living, freckles and being dark isn't really seen in a good light unlike this generation. Literally dressing ugly won't help her so it's necessary for her to make her face and skin unfit for their generations standard. Until now, beauty standards are still f-ed up sometimes but at least we're now accepting of freckles and different skin colors.
