Everyone is such an asshole to naho and the reason why this story doesn’t work is because the mc went from someone who was self confident with themselves and happy to someone who is insecure and always seems to have a veil of self loathing to them. It feels like character regression. He wasn’t even bothering people before, and even if he had “unchecked ego” (which he didn’t) who cares? Nao deserves someone better than a possessive asshole

It's painful, but at some point, he really does need to know he isn't exactly the cutest of them all (conventionally speaking ofc; his personality still makes him a cutie - & that's somewhat subjective) and that is perfectly OK.
Now, as he matures, he'll slowly learn to find his confidence that isn't based on how people perceive him (w/c, in the long run, is better than his og source of confidence)
