ouuuu this is one of those stories huh I like it. I find myself gravitating towards the "morally grey (MC) X almost completely corrupted by societal norm (ML)" kinda dynamic and I even enjoy the morally grey character's descent into madness later on in the plot (of course I'm talking about the typical plot, I know nothing about this one beyond these chapters). I think that I've been into this dynamic for a long time and there was a time when it was scarce in any type of media ever which is why I love the TV series Hannibal so much because it aligned perfectly with this preference of mine.
There was a time when I was younger when I had to have the discussion with myself to ascertain that this is just a fictional preference and that in real life, the slightest faintest red flag would make me run for the hills and thankfully, that was the case. In real life, you just get too close for comfort to me and I'm gone lol
