I noticed a lot of dissonance in comparing the lead characters from the manhwa to the novel as well as their future plotlines. I'll be honest I think the manhwa adaptation is going for a shorter happy ending route than the twisted novel, not to mention the rushing of the story. Thankfully someone in the topics section listed the timeline and personality differences of the characters in comparison on its novel counterpart so you can compare there.
Anyway a few things I think regarding the characters, tho can be proven wrong, but for now what I'll settle with.
- Edric here is written to be more of a pushover by his mother, lacks a bit of cunning and horrendous side of his novel counterpart. Basically, an idiot prince scenario (I've read too many books and scripts and see this as a typical character stereotype, especially in K-Drama)
- Mellie is still a damsel in distress. Unfortunately, still barely has any substance aside from being a damsel in distress and being stupidly-in-love with Edric. It may be uncomfortable for others, but it is a common plot driver in both stories and reality. My cousin being one despite her husband's irresponsibility and being a violent drunkard.
- Francis, is written now more to be a plot driver supporting character, I still don't see the second male lead role others have said about him as he doesn't feel like he harbors any romantic feelings or even if he does, there's nothing that makes it appear he wants to pursue it. In the novel he was just a rescuer to Mellie, nothing deep.
If it follows the novel page-by-page, it'll feel complicated. Despite making use of the FLs POV for the storytelling, the plot still revolves around the ML.
And then there's a whole lot of drama and backstory. I should probably just wait this one out and let it finish before I read.
