I wasn't sure if I was going to like this, but I think I do! It really makes you think about how memories and experiences make a person. The Emperor had a totally different childhood, and had a good influence (Yeo Dam) that he didn't have in the previous timeline, and therefore is basically a different person. Which is good, because the previous version of him was total trash
