I know he can be very irresponsible and thickheaded but his actions make sense, and is able to see his mistakes and apologize, I think that is great and a lot of people aren't capable of doing this, that really was the best part of the conversation, how, ironically, the one that matched the wavelenght of the dad was Tsugumi xd, everyone else wanted to punch him, and they are right, lets not forget he r*ped Megumi's mom and doesn't seems there is remorse at all. So them thinking about , "respecting his opinion as Megumi's dad" is something he should be grateful since he is a trashy human.
