I first got into BL during the Covid era, and I was immediately hooked. Back then, most of the titles I read felt genuinely well-written and even relatable. There was a solid balance between fantasy and realism—enough to pull you in emotionally but still grounded in human connection.
Lately, though, it feels like many BL writers have lost touch with what makes a good romance. It’s either the uke is overly promiscuous right from the start, jumping into bed with a seme who’s unrealistically endowed, or the story gets bogged down in convoluted world-building I couldn’t care less about.
Where are the slow burns? The realistic chemistry, the gradual flirting, the emotional buildup, the nuanced mix of healthy and toxic traits, the exploration of family dynamics? All of that seems to be fading away, replaced by shallow hookups and over-the-top sexual tropes. Even the artwork feels like it’s slipping in quality.
Some people don’t seem to understand what fantasy is really about. Many individuals have rape fantasies, and while that may be uncomfortable for some, it’s important to remember that these are fictional scenarios, not real-life actions. It's no different than how horror movies depict graphic violence, or how games like GTA showcase crime and chaos. These are all forms of escapism and storytelling.
The one boundary that should never be crossed is involving children or minors in any sexual fantasy, that's absolutely unacceptable.
What frustrates me is seeing people criticize certain manhwas for being "toxic," even when the content is clearly labeled that way. If it’s already tagged as toxic, why act surprised or outraged? These kinds of comments often feel less like genuine critique and more like performative outrage, and that kind of reaction can discourage authors from exploring their creative and sexual expression in fiction. That’s a loss for everyone who values freedom in storytelling.
The author in question handled the toxic romance trope intentionally and effectively. Just because it includes a rape fantasy element doesn’t make the entire work immoral, it’s a fictional fantasy, not a real act. Morality in fiction operates differently than in reality. If you find certain fantasies distasteful, that’s fine, but don’t shame others for theirs. I wouldn’t judge someone for liking something I find unappealing, as long as it stays within ethical boundaries. Let’s respect each other’s yums instead of trying to censor them.
It’s funny how some people willingly annoy themselves. I get that everyone has their own opinions, but it’s hilarious when someone keeps reading a manhwa they supposedly hate, only to leave the same complaints over and over. If you think it’s trash, why not just drop it instead of torturing yourself? It’s that simple. Not every story will be to your taste, but plenty of people enjoy it. I’d understand if there was actual critique instead of just “I hate this,” but hey, do what you want. I just find it weird (and kind of dumb) that instead of moving on, some people choose to keep reading just to spread negativity.
Many BL readers these days don't appreciate good storytelling. They prefer unrealistic interactions and overly dramatic characters, which is often toxic but sweet. This might be because many of them are young and see the world differently. They don't recognize good writing and are shallow in their preferences.

(The translations I received were a bit messy, so I skipped some of the gaming details and focused on the interactions between Jigu and Neuta.)
Neuta changed his gaming appearance to match his neighbor's, leading Jigu to play less and causing concern for Neuta.
Neuta bonded with Jigu's brother and niece, growing closer to them.
Jigu began to suspect that Neuta might be his gaming partner. This suspicion arose when Jigu messaged Neuta in Blue Hole, and Neuta replied saying he was unwell. Jigu promptly visited Neuta's apartment, knocking on his door to check on him.
Their relationship deepened as a result.
The story starts promisingly but quickly loses its appeal, becoming bland. I cant understand why the seme would fall for the weird Uke for such weak reasons. The Uke's behavior is that of a stalker, for heaven's sake! Who in their right mind would develop feelings for someone just because they say sweet things, especially when they're a stalker? The writers should have created a more compelling narrative to showcase the Uke's complexity to the Seme overtime, so he wouldn't just see him as this weird person. And seriously, the dildo? How did the Seme not find that strange, especially considering the circumstances of being alone with the Uke in his apartment? Despite these flaws, I must admit the art style was quite good.
I love this very much the phasing is not rushed. Even the fillers are not boring. Thank god the art style returned to its original quality near the latest chapters. The personality of the characters are so fucking great. 10 out of 10.
