you should talk it out. try not to sound too defensive but if you feel that you shouldn't have to apologise or if she is mad at you unfairly, then talking it out is the best way. also, try to find out the reason why she's mad before giving your opinion so that she feels heard enough and calms down

You said she's asexual right? Being asexual doesn't really mean they're also aromantic. Maybe just apologise properly since there are some people who actually think deeply of being told that they are liked/loved and only to be said that it's a prank, most would feel like they were being made a fool of.

btww as an asexual i can assure you that asexual people can have crushes and love others. we just dont feel sexually attracted to others, i mean there's a spectrum ofc.

There is this new jubilee video on YouTube where they ask asexual people question and opinion on the subject. It's really interesting you should have a look.
But all this to say that being asexual doesn't mean you can't or you don't want a relationship. It's the sexual aspect (kissing or sex) that they don't want to partake in.
That's a really simple way that I have understood it.
So i think that's why she said you should look for someone else.
But for why she is mad, maybe maybe she has a little bit of feelings for you or felt offended.
But either way you should definitely apologise and talk it out. She is the only one that can give you an answer. ( as if that wasn't obvious haha)

BTW this is my take on the situation and I'm not asexual so I might be completely wrong.
