I love when we get those queit moments of sadness from Haru where there's no text on screen and you're just left to sit with what has happened and you're feelings towards it coupled with Haru's acceptance and indifference. Like the extra morning-after-scene with the researcher where Haru attempts to call out to him and he ignores her like he's ashamed or embarrassed to be associated with her and there's very little verbal feedback displayed to tell the audience how to feel and you FEEL it. That crushing sense of loneliness and low self esteem is captured so elegantly and excellently that I will never forget. I will wake up early in the morning and think about the feelings this story has imbued by having those quiet scenes where you're left to sit with the scene in the hopeless pit alongside these characters.
