First of all, i fully agree with fl. No one shall be condemned for something they have not done yet. Personally, im not big with revenge stuff. Thats just too low for me. People change. Are you the same person you are 5 years ago?
In the original novel, it happened because of jieun. Yes, everything is jieuns fault (thats how i see it). She came to the world and got fooled by zena. Allowed the drugging and brainwashing of the prince and even lied that she loved him. Just to get his favor. All for self preservation. She didnt care if people died around her for it.
Second, the webtoon made the prince too cruel. In the book he never asked fl to lick his shoes. He did not smirked when she was executed. Actually, he tried to stop it by raising his hands but he was under too much drugs to shout and jieun was holding down his hands. However, i will never defend the rape he did. That was stupid of him.
He also did not cause the miscarriage of fl. She was drugged by zena. Which jieun knew. The emperor never showed his face to fl after that because he felt so guilty. For him he was filthy and has sullied fl. (His mother is a maid, and fl is a pureblood noble) he actually felt sick about himself.
Third, he was continuously drugged by zena ever since jieun appeared. A drug that made him too paranoid and affected his perception. Like a hallucinogenic drug. They brainedwashed him for years and made him a puppet.
Fourth, he was already inlove with fl to begin with but fl was too cold towards him. Never smiled nor acknowledged him. In the original timeline fl was just too cold, has zero expression, and never once showed anything towards the prince. So as much as it hurts the prince because he loves her, he has this notion that she only married him for power. Tho, His happiness was to marry fl and wanted to fight the decision to make jieun empress. Being fl's husband was his only pride and happiness during that time that he cannot do anything even as an emperor. Note that during that time, the royal was actually weak and is in the verge of being deposed. They needed the the support of the church (who is very much in support of jieun) and the party of zena. This is political play which all the advisers and close political supporters of the crown wanted. So, jieun was made empress. Tho, he was infatuated with jieun, it was because of the clinginess of jieun. He never felt that from anyone.
Fifth, after fl was killed. He was NOT relieved (unlike what is written in webtoon). He fell more into depression making the drugs more effective. If he needed to appear sane he will picture fl in his memory and that will make him smile.
Sixth, the kingdom fell only 5 years after fl died because jieun is so incompetent. All her decisions as empress is useless or made matters worst. After that she was killed by zena and her child.
The emperor was also killed in a cliff but he accepted that since he was so tired of being a puppet and being useless that he was not able to protect fl.
As he was dying, he was looking up and staring at the moon (symbol of empress) and he smiled since in his mind he will meet fl again in the afterlife (for him fl has always been and the only empress). The only woman he ever loved.
His death was actually very sad in the book. It explained a lot of things about what happened.
Seventh. Both ml and fl were victims. The ml longed for fl but fl just coldly brushed him off. She never expressed nor told him she loves him. Ml was a victim of jieun and zena. They preyed on his starvation of love and affection. They used him as a puppet.
And in the end both fl and ml died longing for the love of each other.
Wew. That was long. I just got tired of people always judging the ml.
I know what he did is wrong but damn. You all sound like jieun. Someone who just lives with revenge and is consumed by it. This is why i love the fl because she chose to be better. She did not live her life consumed by hatred and revenge and decided to love the people around her instead.
Well in the book, she actually acknowledges that she being too frigid cold contributed to the matters.

Yeah. The webtoon actually deviated from the novel. They made ml too cruel and unredeemable, and fl too angelic. Fl has faults too in the original timeline.
OK question about the difference between the webtoon and the novel. You said that FL never expressed her love towards the prince in the first timeline but I was under the impression that she really tried to in her own way but he never noticed what she did. Like how hard she worked, and how she knew what he liked and disliked and catered to his preferences. Did this only happen in the webtoon or did it happen in the novel as well?
I have never read the novel BUT I had always thought that the Prince had deep feelings of love for Tia and that everything that had happened in the past was most definitely what's-her-face's fault. If people stop to think about it, everything started to crumble AFTER that what's-her-face appeared in this world. I also agree that people should stop critising the Prince for something he hasn't even done in this current timeline. I also think that going back in time helped Tia express herself a bit more and honestly, it's probably changed Tia's relationship with the Prince. Tia decided to live her life differently and I honestly believe that because of this, the Prince would never ever feel like she became an Empress solely for the sake of duty.
The Prince would never feel starved for love and affection because I think he's able to see that he has people he could rely on now. I'm not standing up for what he did in the past timeline but anyone could see that he's a better person now in the current timeline. I'm shocked to find out that he too died but at the same time, his heart probably died the same time Tia died back in the past timeline.
This was all seem as a mere duty. Because when he tries to approach fl she just gives him generic answer. Like "im glad i could help", "this is my job as a queen", "im happy you like it" in a very professional voice.
Thats true. Tia actually realized what she did wrong in the past and changed her ice princess persona. Thats is why everything is changing and why the prince in the second timeline was not fazed by jieun. ML has seen the emotions of FL
Yeah. Since jieun arrived ML's life became a living nightmare. Jieun became the person who opened the hell and let Zena enter the palace.

People who gets annoyed with Maxi, i assumed, has never witnessed trauma victims. She is clearly with trauma. The way she responds, and act. Even in real life, it will take YEARS for trauma victims to heal, even with active therapy snd support. Not months or overnight. Not just because they are in a better place now that they can snap out of it or suddenly see the beauty of the world. It does not work that way.
According to how Maxi is portrayed, she has Impostor Syndrome, depression, and severe anxiety.
If you look up what Impostor Syndroms is, you'll notice how similar it is to Maxi's reactions.
