He is fits with how a lot of victims of abuse react despite dangers so it isnt too off. Many people go back to their partner after almost being killed, so him being raised in this makes him more susceptible to this, especially with his desperation for affection(ofc thats what makes him an easier target). Its a frustrating pattern and many women only remove themselves from it when they are responsible for kids(and even then many dont).
