Confusion??

So while I was reading it, I really loved it. BUT then they said the kid was a middle schooler, which it was obvious from his looks he was a kid but their relationship didn't progress until the ending really. I'm just confused cuz like isn't it crazy for a middle aged man to get with a middle school boy?? Unless it wasn't romantic and I misread it?? Idk but everywhere I look no one is talking about it so I'm confused, putting him as a middle school kid ruined it for me a bit

    Its definitely not romantic. The main guy just blushes a lot from embarrassment. The “going out” part is to be taken as taking a kid out to have fun at amusement parks or movies like what you would do with your younger sibling. The angel is a metaphor for hope and its not suppose to be viewed romantically i have no idea why people viewed it that way.

    This. It seemed like the angel didn't have a friend that he hanged out with and he also wanted to feel loved, doesn't have to be romantic.
