This is some good stuff. No amnesia but just coldheartedness from our Yigon BECAUSE of what his brother shared with him, revealing the true nature of their contract--the actual benefits to Tae-kang. I understand Yigon being mad but as someone else pointed out, where can he go from here?
I thought of two ways this can go.
1) Yigon figures this shit out for himself, maybe goes to grandpa and actually fights his brother for the chairman role
2) Flip the script and this time enter another agreement with Tae-kang but having the upper hand instead - maybe decide to fight Ha-kyung together?
I just really hope the author utilizes the fact that she's brought up that Yigon is really smart and show some of these traits in his next steps. Other than that I'm very glad this did not go the amnesia route bc amnesia does NOTHING for the plot. It will be interesting to see where this author takes this, esp considering this is an original work that has held up to this point FOR ME.
I know a lot of readers are praising this story, stating how different and sweet Chase is from Keith (from Kiss me Liar) but knowing this story is from the same author as the shit story Kiss me Liar (has a few positives) and seeing how this is going, this story ain't it. It takes more than just making the ML traumatized and sweet.
Everything that happens in this story is either cliche, stereotypical, or contrived just for the sake of it--just for the smut. An example of this is when Josh finds Chase in the woods of the party and Chase has some sort of reaction and the next thing Josh does is jerk him off... There isn't any worldbuilding to explain how the omegaverse works in this universe and they just state it as its happening, that he needs to drain his pheromones or else he can't breathe.
And for someone who supposedly is trying his best to hide his identity from the alpha he marked, Josh does a pretty poor job. Almost every time they engage, its sexual but there is no sexual tension or any reluctance/hesitation from Josh. You could say he's overcome by the pheromones but there's no worldbuilding to establish that. There's barely any inner dialogue to even show that Josh is worried about Chase finding out.
Side note, ppl praise the art too but I think the art leaves much to be desired. Look at Yeonwoo--the soft, round, juvenile look he's given bc he's an omega. After Chase got his hair dyed, he looks like a punkass gothic teenager.
At this point, I know we all thinking he either has amnesia or goes into a coma after this accident. I actually really pray and hope that that will not be the case. It's too cliche, overdone and boring. If the title has any bearing on this manhwa, I really hope like many predicted amnesia but with the twist that he's fakng it. We NEED something different--something that FLIPS THE SCRIPT. Maybe pretend to be crippled? Or pretending to lose intelligence? This needs to be done right or I'm crashing out.
This chapter is soo short, I thought when someone said "rip up the contract yes!" meant Yigon actually ripped up the contract but instead its just them having a fight where Taekang is terminating the contract. LOVE the conversation happening here tho bc Yigon is telling him EXACTLY how and what has happened instead of just shutting up and leaving. This shouldn't have ended when Yigon said "you think im a delusional lunatic" NOOOOO I CANT WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FOR ANOTHER SHORT CHAPTER PLEASSE!
Might just be me but I find it a bit distasteful to reference Kiss me Liar, the original story but not reference it accurately. If I remember correctly, Josh finds Yeonwoo on the side of the building and offers him a water and has a small chitchat before Keith interrupts but also besides that is the stark difference in art of portraying Yeonwoo and Keith. I didn't even recognize Yeonwoo until his name was said. It defeats the purpose of continuity but I guess doesn't have much bearing on this story on its own.
I know people said this is a good story based on the novel but its such a stupid plotline to have Josh willingly and purposefully jerk Chase off to relieve the pheremones? I guess this story will do the same in not explaining to us how their omegaverse works.
I'm itching to read the next chapter or at least let it marinate. Just wondering when or if it regularly updates since it missed last tues?
Can someone just spoil it for me as I dropped this around chapter 60 something. So is Jake a cop? Agent for an actual govt agency? Is he a "good guy"? I heard some people say the action is only starting now so...what's the goal? Kill Ross?
Not super upset about the ML as it sorta makes sense that he does not believe him. HOWEVER, there's some plot holes here and there like I remember Taekang explicitly asking his people to fact check Yigon's background and having a hard time checking his medical records (CH 10) and then finding out that he never went to a psychiatrist so --> he believes "Yigon is telling the truth or he didn't tell anybody these ridiculous fears" (CH 17).
BUT does this mean they weren't able to or DID NOT fact check his psychotic brother? I would understand if CH 17's scene was followed up by no leads or revelation about Yigon and his family's affairs or relationship but correct me if I'm wrong, this plot point never gets brought up again.
Besides that, I'll agree its starting to drag a bit and each chapter, not much happens, like this chapter is literally just them meeting in that room, going home and Taekang listing his boundary and then his thoughts. BRO we could've have a whole few days in one chapter. If the author wants this to work, she needs to focus on their feelings and thought processes and the actual act of falling in love rather than the smut and sex, which has been replacing actual conversations. These two really are not communicating.
I agree this manhwa has been too long, especially the 2nd season. Surprisingly I am still reading and interested. The 2nd season about their past lives definitely could've been condensed bc it was unnecessarily long. Writing could've been done better, esp more focus on Ian's relationship with Lorkan paired with the reveal that he has been scheming from the beginning would've hit harder had we seen their relationship. I can prob predict how this will end. But I just wanted to talk about the art. It has gotten better in some areas and then worse it some. The lips are a hit or miss, often making them look weird especially when Ian laughs. They do this squiggly outline of this lips... But at the same time, the faces, hair, and clothing look more textured and realistic/3D.
I came back here for the side stories and just learned about the author's crashout on twitter. Can readers on illegal/streaming sites shut the fuck up. Stop posting this shit everywhere and tagging the authors. Mangago has been a trustworthy website since forever. Are these hoes stupid? I thought this new generation supposed to be smart. This is literally the reason why Painter of the Night was no longer translated and posted on Mangago. PLEASE stop talking and posting about this website or reading works on illegal websites online. These people really be ruining everybody else's fun. STFU and read your free shit.
THIS is how you write a story about a messed up ML. Like others said...this is peak. I kept seeing this occasionally in my feed and thought oh its prob just another toxic seme and boring ass story I've read a thousand times before but from the first couple of chapters, I knew this had potential. Everything from the way this is structured, jumping into the past, the way the MCs interact with each other, and the reveal of Seo-in's state of mind with why he acts the way he does or behaves the way he does to how he truly feels is masterfully done. It doesn't feel like his backstory is an afterthought and a justification for how he behaves. It feels like we as an audience is growing with the MCs and seeing them work out their issues, truly understand themselves and each other and eventually develop a true meaningful relationship.
Although I also find this "getting together with my dead sibling's lover" trope to be rather distasteful, I think this manga does a much better job with this trope. Often times it can feel disrespectful to the dead partner and just feel like the sibling is a replacement. However in this manga, the ending is more open ended and the focus is more on Yukito trying to find happiness again step by step. It's clear they don't immediately end up together with the line "I don't have all the answers yet...just hope we can see the sunflowers together next summer". I felt this was a sweet story that did not harp on the "fucking my dead sibling's lover" but rather on finding comfort in the small moments and rediscovering happiness.
This "special chapter" made everything way worse. I thought this seme was ehh but a lil trashy and now with this chapter showing exactly how he raped and physically manipulated the uke puts a bad taste in my mouth.
If it weren't for this author constantly paning to the shoes, I wouldn't have noticed the ugly ass shoes he's got on which prob is a sneaker head's dream but he's supposed to be the CEO of a security company AND a mercenary but he wears THOSE sneakers?!? He couldn't wear some NON FLASHY, good black or white sneakers? Not to mention his face looking all sorts of fucked up while the omega looks absolutely beautiful with complimentary colors. The ML looks like his face never got past proofreading or editing. The lines of his face and eyes look janky.
I reread this after losing interest for a while but why are all the comments bashing the ML? Compared to many other manhwas with similar plots or characters, the ML in this is far from dogshit Jaekyung. Yea he isn't nice sometimes but you can tell by his actions he isn't a complete dickhead like even in the very beginning when he actually lets Yigon sleep and rest, etc. You can tell from his thoughts, he feels something is off and isn't straight fucked up. Has everybody forgotten that Yigon DID NOT TELL Taekang, what his grandfather said and how that whole dinner ended? Yes he told him that his brother is trying to kill him, but its a lil hard to believe and nothing really suggests that ML knows knows. IDK I dont get the hate and in fact see the potential in this story since from the very beginning ML and MC has shown that they are somewhat respectful and kind characters, just bound by their circumstances.
Someone else commented and I couldn't have said it any better but I really like this story too. I liked almost all of the characters except for the dickhead alpha husband. But the main focus of this story was on Juhyeok's world view and journey to loving again. As someone else said, MC represents us and with that detail, the author proceeded to tell this story in such a detailed yet relatable way. For a long time of reading mangas/manhwas, I haven't really seen such a realistic, witty and comedic reaction to what's happening in this story. Example being right in the 1st chapter with MC calling the cops on the workplace violence happening.
I loved many aspects of this manhwa from the characters, their development, the progress between the ML and MC, the inner thoughts and actions of the MC and even the side story. Loved the MC's best friend as well and although the story makes sense with MC being with ML, I lowkey have 2nd male lead syndrome. Speaking of the story, there aren't' any unnecessary drama like love triangles, or evil exs or rape. Although many subjects are touched upon to help with worldbuilding, the story is more focused on the inner turmoil that MC faces but it isn't portrayed as too dark of a topic but rather a topic most people can relate to and go through in real life. His feelings are resolved in a realistic way that flows effortlessly.
Onto the side couple...it was TOO SHORT. It had so much potential as this couple represents a different problem with love than the main couple AND serves as a symbol of how different and similar omegas and alphas' world is from that of betas'. This type of storyline with arranged marriage and child on the way has rarely been fleshed out. THIS HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL as a story on its own. I would've loved to see a lot more backstory from how they interacted in their college days to how they set up the relationship from the start and how the author would navigate their troubles. This author makes me believe that they would legitimately have the omega end with someone else.
There really is nothing the author can do to redeem this character. Still to this point, he does not truly care for Dan at all. "You're no use to me in this condition" How far is the author going to push this for Jaekyung to "realize his feelings" or whatever rushed BS she gonna pull. It isn't enough that Dan is dependent on alcohol, sleepwalking, malnourished and nearly drowns himself. What's the next step? He needs to actually consciously commit suicide? And then what? Jaekyung has a miraculous realization of how he feels? He still going with the sex. Like does the author think we're 5 and can't see through this bullshit?
For the first few chapters, I feel the pacing is off like its cutting out certain parts or translation is off? This makes it very confusing to understand what is happening. I didn't even know what the premise was from reading the first couple of chapters until I read a reader's summary of this manhwa
To have someone love you like that would be a dream. This is an absolute masterpiece. Does anybody know of another manga/manhwa that is so well written like this one?
What the fuck is up with the 3rd story. Messy, incomplete story with plot holes, the size of a black hole, with a "non-ending" that ruined this shit even more. I don't know how a story could have so much potential and it just blows up in your face. You know what, I agree with others, FUCK YOU author.
