Also, there was “someone” chasing the dad - so yeah, there’s more plot there:
1. Could the dad have been a plain ‘ol innocent victim?
2. Maybe the dad hurt/stole from someone to get uke the water?
Any of these or more could explain why the dad died, because seme recruits people esp if they have a use for the town. But even so, if they hurt or violate something, then the Sisyphus kills them.
