I’m still reading (ch 112) and I like it, but something about the way the conflict and the war is being handled is leaving me with a weird feeling. It’s kinda strange to see a character like Estelle be presented as a fool who didn’t realize that the country she was protecting was corrupted and the the people ruling were evil.
Idk if I’m explaining myself correctly.
When I started reading I hoped she will pick up the sword again, or any weapon that will make her feel as powerful as she felt when she was a knight, I understand if her body was so weak and holding a sword might be difficult but they have showed us that she has physical strength, and plenty. It feels now that they are trying to convince the audience that she would have been better off never becoming a knight or learning how to fight. It makes me so sad.
I don’t like how they are talking about her in these last episodes, saying that if she really cared she should have betrayed her country, the country and the people she dedicated her whole life to, and that she killed innocent people that were accused of treason even tho there weren’t guilty, that she was just a dog, and then showing us how the people that gave up are thriving now. It’s vastly different from the treatment they gave zed when it was revealed that he was ordering the execution of children, why can’t he say no? Why can’t he refuse to follow orders?, when he is awarded with grace and understanding, they say Estelle should have known better and should have refused to follow her king.
A small alarm is going off in my brain and it seems like there is propaganda of some type going on. Idk if I’m exaggerating, probably. They can’t convince me that the war was not beneficial to the winners, that the losing kingdom was evil and that the people are far better off at the mercy of another emperor. “Poor citizens suffering from oppression of their rulers, they should just surrender to another kingdom that certainly does not have any ill intentions”
Also saying they were kind enough to not change the laws of inheritance already established there, what bullshit, how kind and generous.
It feels that they are trying to get any ideas of independence out of Estelle, that she shouldn’t be looking for revenge and should just accept the defeat, For the sake of her relationship with zed
I don’t think they will just make her forget it but it seems that way, I hope they prove me wrong.
Finally, I know it looks like I don’t really like the story but I love it, I’m just worried about where it’s headed.
Any comments criticizing my point of view are welcome, I’ll love to get different perspectives. :)
