Contextualising a villain's personality with a backstory is interesting and a good tool, but in this case it feels unnecessary. We already knew that he didn't have it good. This really just feels like we're supposed to be understanding of his vile behaviour instead of just providing context

Honestly what irritates me the most is children turning out exactly like the parents (usually the father) wish. I just don't think wishing for a daughter is less toxic than preferring sons. Every time a ML wishes for "a daughter that looks just like her mum <3" I just wish he was proven wrong so he can examine his biases and prove that he would love his child no matter the gender. I just don't want parental love to be gendered
