Ok so the actions of the mil's mom and her side can't be justified but the emperor is the main villain in my opinion. He was married first to mil's mom. She spent her whole life prepping for a life with him but is kept as a simple wife/queen for him while he goes and "falls in love" with ML's mom makes her the empress and ignores mil's mom. Sounds like the queen needs a reincarnation story of her own where she dumps that emperor and finds a north duke(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
I'm usure if it's fully the Emperor’s fault. The emperor loved his 1st wife, but was forced to marry with the second woman who having the most noble bloodline as his Queen (as much I know he never love her) for the peace of the country. Then the second woman and her family plotted to get rid of the 1st Empress and the princess, and get her own son as Crown Prince. There was no engagment talks before witch Michaels mom. The emperor is only guilty to not having enought power to protect his empress.
I was surprised he didn't blame his father at all and seemed to have zero issues with him. I think a real person would have conflicting feelings and would be stuck between hating his father for letting them die and loving said father. It felt unrealistic

True, I would blame him beeing powerless, and unable to protect my mither.
