Are participants expected to be “hikikomori” and if so how are you verifying that
Hey no participants are not expected to be Hikikomori. My demographic for this survey is Manga readers all over the world, hence distributing in sites like this managadex etc.
Just answered nice subject ! Are you looking at the contrast between a male and female hikikomori? Or just how their behaviors are influenced by different things such as a female may have more societal and family pressure while a man may not ?
I am doing this survey to figure out if my conclusion from the analysis of 2 subjects (manga) is theoretical correct or not. Men and Women both suffer from societal and family pressures the pressures are just different. Yes, I will be comparing the causes and reasons in males and females and do comparative analysis among female depictions too. My focus is on women as a lot of literature has worked on male representation and the gap lies in the gendered aspect.
Interesting it reminds me of the ethnographic research I did for a university project but mine was on how do people think pro-black pedagogies and linguistic justice shape literacy experiences and practices for black individuals. Anywaysssss I wish you the best !! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

damn, it was hard to answer the female MC questions, because I've read exactly 2 manga where a female hikikomori appears (〜￣△￣)〜 I hope those answers won't have any negative impact on your research (￣∇￣")
Not at all, in fact my hypothesis suggests that there is a lack of female Hikikomori representations. Hikikomori representations in general is not mainstream but welcome to nhk gained fairly good popularity!
Correcting myself, lack of* not as in total absence but fewer representations.
