my biggest worry about s2 was that it would destroy the foundations set up in s1 and drift from it's initial charm as realistic yet melodramatic. but s2 actually did the opposite and tied up the loose threads left behind perfectly. i think it might've also helped satisfy those who disliked s1 for it's vague, bittersweet realism while also retaining the same themes that made s1 so appealing to readers like myself! literally such a perfect, well written ending
imo this misses the mark for a lot of people because it's not supposed to be a love story. so it won't follow the conventional narrative other bls do in which a and b end up together; instead, we are given flawed (and at times unlikeable) characters who decisively need healing over pursuing a toxic relationship. the ending is reflective of each character's past mistakes, growth, & willingness to get better before seeking out a relationship. i really like how subversive the narrative ended up being, and this series really highlighted the fickleness of love. super harrowing and tragic, yet having hope is still a vital theme by the end.
