People supporting guwon kinda scare me, theres a reason the death sentence doesnt apply to literally every crime, i mean theres hardly and ppl in their little town, humans act on self interest ofc theyre gonna break the rules, that doesn’t mean they should kill someone who wants to save their kids life. The reason he decided to steal was probably because he knew there was no other way to help his son otherwise, and that kind of punishment incentivizes people to resort to theft and other crimes out of fear, because theres no other option and because they cant trust their leader to help them inside the town. What good does it do them to stay in the town vs outside when theyre all gonna end up dying in the end attempting to survive in their “shelter” where they hardly have access to basic healthcare that is available when they REALLY need it. Guwon has no true responsibility to take care of these people, but if hes going to do it he might as well do it right, which he thinks he is in his own sick way. He obviously has no compassion and a warped sense of justice, he doesn’t know how to make a system that isnt based on fear, although that can keep the town alive for a while it would ultimately end in everyone dying in the end. Like to anyone agreeing w guwon have u ever read a book particularly a history bookmatter of fact you can just go outside and see how a corrupt justice system brings out the absolute worst in people, obviously in these situations a slap on the wrist wont do, but its not hard to imagine an alternative to death that will still keep compliant to law.
