The ring didn't broke like that in the novel. If I'm not mistaken Yansheng fought with Nianan outside some building after he saw Nianan with Tang shuo (?)) and the ring fell but Nianan didn't notice it at first but when he does he look for the ring but found it was broken. The ring was like the last resort of Nianan towards Yansheng twat coz for him through that ring they are still somehow connected and he still have something to hold on.
