Being wokejoshi isn’t so bad, everyone knows that toxic, sa taboo topics are bad irl. But insulting others for reading a type of topic makes no sense. Even if they enjoy this certain taboo topic. Reading fiction doesn’t mean you’ll do the act irl. And then we got the whole ”women who read yaoi are fetishizers” topic. Mangago is really popular mostly for yaoi readers but I’ve got the feeling many of the readers that uses mangago now are pretty young. But I really hate the hypocrisy of calling women ”fetishizers” for either being obsessed with yaoi or just liking it. But literally almost if not ALL yaoi are just mass produced by women. If it pisses you off that their ”fetishizing” gay men then simply leave the space that was created for women and look for BL works produced by men. The only people reading yaoi whoever that I do very dislike and think shouldn’t be in our spaces is homophobic/ m people. But what do u guys think?

I think people should be free to like both more traditional BL, and more progressive BL. I draw the line at pedo shit and presenting rape as hot, justified, etc. Other than that, feel free to like problematic shit lol, it's fiction at the end of the day, and one can acknowledge a piece of fiction is problematic while still liking some aspects (like in dark romance for example; I love BDSM and even some hardcore obsessive tropes but IRL, I'd hate to be in a controlling dynamic, hence why I enjoy it through fiction only). I also don't think women/female presenting people enjoying BL is inherent fetishization. Many of us read BL because we genuinely enjoy the stories, the dynamics, the characters, and we like to see men being vulnerable, loving, and tender towards each other. If that's fetishization... So be it.

Homophobic/queer phobic people reading BL must be the most hypocritical thing ever lol. Maybe they're closeted and have internalized homophobia?

I have to disagree with that last bit of BL being a space simply created for women. Its true yes but that's where people start calling us fetishizers. When the fictional gay men your getting all heart-eyed for have really harmful undertones (that are not there for intentional story purposes) then people start to have issues with all these straight women writing about gay men

Other guy said it too but the stories that romanticize rape? That's just way too common and accepted in these parts and horrible representation of queer relationships (relationships in general) but the idea that the "uke" has to say 'no' and deny while the "seme" rages on is bad and linked to homophobia (yknow, the idea of an "attacker" I think thats the slang for it in China lmao).

In the end, the main audience is people who are attracted to men. There are certainly people who are weird about it but in the end, a good book is a good book.
