I hope he’s told about all the things Yoo-gon went through and wallows in sadness, also please Jung-hae cut ties with him I need real repercussions for such violation of trust.
And please, let’s not ignore this manhwa actually using rape as a deep and valid plot device instead of just empty suffering that’s never properly addressed.
I get it ok. She’s a hot mess right now, but can you blame her? Her past three years have been: divorce, work, getting together with a man-child, work, getting trampled on by a man child, getting demoted to the boonies by her beloved boss, having to adapt to a hostile workplace in the boonies, getting together with an emotionally unavailable man who’s a workaholic, more work, a project she fought for like a queen, moving back to Tokyo, dealing with a bizarre situation back in Tokyo, more work, pressure to get married and pregnant, emotionally unavailable fiancé suddenly acting like the legal guardian of his ex wife, man-child confessing, moving to a new place, more work and now the project gets cancelled after all her hard work. Guys, I don’t know if I could be as strong as she is… and yes, whereas I agree she’s irritating, can you blame her? I honestly hope she finds a path worth living for her, I just don’t want her to suffer so much.
It feels so utterly wrong and even simple to call them monsters. Her real-world brothers and her real-father are worse than the least noble of the beings in the animal kingdom. The absolute audacity to even dare to plan to ask for forgiveness when she wakes up… How much can you loathe a person to cause them so much pain without a single shed of remorse… Entitled little sons of bitches HOW DARE YOU MAKE HER LIVE THROUGH HELL IF YOU WANTED HER TO LIKE YOU? Even if you’re fictional I hope that if there’s someone in the real world who goes through what Penelope did, I curse those relatives with all of my hatred. Abuse is a very complex topic, and being the kid of a narcissist is an even deeper whirlpool of emotions. These characters are certainly not real, but these experiences are far more common than what you might think.
Exert a little bit more control over your wild opinions while you’re on the Internet and try to look at characters with 3dimensional identities with sympathy, ‘cos their stories reflect other real people who are also in this community. As fellow users we owe that to each other.
I think Heiner and Annette know that better than anyone else. I appreciate they had the time to thoroughly explore each other’s identities outside of they very predictable romance, but this is not mainly a story about romance for me; this story’s main themes are trauma and responsibility.
I love that we got to see Annette grow into a better human being, a better woman not a plain “perfect victim” as we usually see depicted in manhwa, her character could have been even better if she had had more time to grovel her father’s heinous acts and how her lack of awareness made her a rich bystander who also caused harm by lack of action. But I do feel she has done the best with everything she had going on. I’m so proud of her for getting so far.
Regarding Heiner, I still hate and can’t forgive what he did to Annette, he was a conniving and spiteful piece of shit who used her as a punching bag for at least 4 years of torment. Thankfully, that is all in the past and the one who has to forgive him is Annette, not me. She felt she could forgive him, he did everything in his power to be forgiven, he respected her times when the time came, and she felt like they were now two different people but at the same time still similar enough to be together; so, I respect and cherish that difficult decision and pray for their future as a family. Now speaking from reader to character, I am so, so, so extremely moved by his growth story, this is what I expect from an absolute piece of shit of a ML when they are supposed to get “back together” with the MC in the end. He repented, he grovelled, he yearned, and suffered, but he really understood his mistakes, learnt from what he did, improved his mental state to be with her as a real man and respected his partner’s wishes as an adult with emotional intelligence. He became a full-fledged man, a great partner and got to finally enjoy his own existence without latching onto a title or a person. Contrary to the usual way authors have of depicting a “man in love”, which to me just comes across as a very possessive, clingy and childish man, who doesn’t want his FL to have a life outside of him and viceversa, this is the type of man that is really in love, at least to me.
It has been a journey guys, I’m glad we got to live it together.
