I'd guess you can call it a preference. Since hyesung gave birth, it's either mom or dad. But I think it's cute how they refer to him as mom, he may be a he but they've never referred to him as a she, they just call him mom.

I'm not sure how korean works but in my 2nd language (+my friends' native languages) you can refer to someone as 'they' without saying 'they', but you can't really translate that specific form to english, so you're kinda forced to say he or she since they is usually multiple people in english. The translater probably just wrote she since they reffer to the person who births as mom sorry for yap, hope it makes sense to some ppl maybe
