Something for non-gay readers here (not me). This is why it's important to think from different spectrums of queerness.

Takamada is new-world queer who has a modern job, has no one to please, and has nothing to really lose, and thinks of everything in their complexity.

Yu is in a small town, has a traditional job in both business and family role, simple in his actions, thoughts, and beliefs—he's just found out he's queer. It was not even tackled that serious. This is his first time experiencing everything in queerness. Give him some grace and room to process everything and think of his steps like he's doing right this very chapter.

IRL, it's so important to talk about how your queer relationship should be in front of others, it needs to be agreed upon to make sure you're both going to be okay in what you might face because oftentimes it's dangerous and harmful. You want to not force your partner to come out. We take it seriously when people are outed, yet we want someone who has never even thought of the possibility that he's queer, to just simply reveal his relationship and face issues he's not even thought of and prepared for yet.
