At this point, I don’t even want to rant about the characters anymore — it’s the author, Fargo, that I have issues with. Because she’s the one who writes all this.
Starting with how she always turns Hyesung into a punching bag in her stories. She tortures Hyesung just to make the people around him “subtly” blame his actions, so a lot of low-comprehension readers back then ended up blaming Hyesung’s “brattiness,” since Fargo indirectly made it look like he was just being dramatic and oh, how Dojin “worked so hard” for Hyesung.
The whole chasing/redemption arc for Dojin wasn’t even good. Again, she made it about how “good of a partner” rich Dojin was instead of actually focusing/addressing Hyesung’s trauma.
And don’t even get me started on how she handled Chowon’s issue with his arrogant, abusive rich parents — the same people who raised Chowon to have such personality issues in the first place. That’s something I expected her to explore with Hyesung and his mother too. (Or maybe there’s supposed to be a “plot twist,” but sorry, Fargo — based on your writing, I just can’t expect you to be wise enough to NOT make that kind of subtle or explicit reconciliation.)
And Dojin, God, Fargo keeps excusing his mistakes in this story. Even his family just brushed it off when their son brought home an omega younger than him, who didn’t go to school and was a little “not bright in the head.” Fargo only relied on Dojin’s “goodness” through his money and power as an alpha.
Dojin supported Hyesung’s mom financially and even bought her a beautiful house with a big garden. And that hag of a mother shamelessly accepted it. If she had even a bit of guilt or moral conscience, she would’ve refused it all and gone to a nursing home herself. There’s no remorse in her at all. And despite seeing Hyesung’s trauma and pain, pain she caused — Dojin kept supporting her.
The kind of red flag I usually like at least prioritizes his lover, would do anything to protect him, even if it means burning the world down. But Dojin, man... Other red flag MLs would make sure that mother felt the same pain their lover went through. But nah. She’s out here living her best life, retired, no stress, still blaming Hyesung in her side of a story for Byul, and only showing up when she hears he married a rich man. And Dojin, even after witnessing all that, still took her side. Willingly. OMFG.
“Maybe he just wanted the mom to stay far away from Hyesung, that’s why he gave her a house and money, so the mom wont bother him.”
BITCH. Dojin is rich. He could’ve just locked her in a nursing home and hired bodyguards to make sure she never came within a mile of Hyesung. There are so many things he could’ve done without helping her financially. Or maybe the author didn’t even think that far, because she doesn’t care about Hyesung at all and just uses his misery for plot convenience. Fargo’s eternal punching bag!
Now, the only way to clear the misunderstanding between Byul and Hyesung is to open Pandora’s box, to reveal Dojin’s crimes and sins. But that would be even more traumatic for Byul if he finds out he was conceived by rape.
But again, I doubt Fargo would ever make her golden boy Dojin look bad. LOL.
