So this family was in with the conspiration to have his father murdered and fed him poison to mess up his mind and have him lose his memories.
The reason he is not dead as well is because ML negociated and had one arm removed (later the wizard helped him by experienting with monsters and gave him a monster arm. thing is that the monster would take over if the arm is not periodically removed and reatached ) and promised to go with his army and fight/win that war in Arlo for the kingdom. Lysbeth promised to keep MC safe and did a hell of a fine job of it
