my theory is that the red string can connect with anyone but he’s destined to be with that blonde dude (I forgot his name) so even tho it connected to someone else he’s still destined to be with him, almost like a mind game to see what he’d do? Anyway that’s what I think

The thing is that we are told early on in the story that one person can create a connection to someone that they were not originally fated with. We see young past-life Yeon doing the ritual to connect a red string to a young past-life Kihoon as kids and we know that forcing a red string connection brings some type of “payment” via misfortune although we don’t know the actual price is. And we know that past-life Yeon was killed young and both of them have been reincarnated and still connected to each other. It’s very likely that the girl was the person Yeon was originally fated to be with which is why the red string between them is faint.

But it can be also that it’t a red herring showing us the scene of past-life Yeon doing the ceremony because it may not count since they were small children and the two were originally fated to the other. But the girl probably actually did the ceremony in the past life to past-life Yeon that lead to Yeon dying and why their string is faint in their current lives. Because it wasn’t a true red string.

I can’t want for the drama to start.
