some of u do not know what media literacy means. media literacy is to CRITICIZE the media consumed in every way (socio-economically, figuratively even CULTURALLY) and part of that is to CONNECT it to the real world thematically and contextually.
saying its FICTION and omg its not important. u guys are wrong. never talk about media literacy if thats ur position on it. that is dangerously anti-intellectual to say.
CONTEXT is very important but THEMATIC COMPOSITION IS more SUBVERSIVE.
cause I see people say that ‘omg its fiction’ , defend jaekyung as a rapist- and turn around and say omg. poor cassie diddy is a monster.
And that is precisely why media literacy, critical thinking and anti intellectualism are imperative to learn.
that is a federal case and this is a fetishized romance BL which is CONTEXT- context is hugely important those two things are wildly different scenarios BUT there is a great overlap in thematic mechanics between those two;
one manifests in reality as a deeply disturbing federal case about abuse of power and sexual coercion and the other is again. a fetishized twisted romance-
I’m not saying reading Jinx is wrong at all- we’re all reading it but. call a spade a spade; Jaekyung IS a rapist and angry. Many times over - he does a lot of things diddy has done as well.
Context and acknowledgement are important - if you can say diddy is vile and a rapist - you should be able to say that about jaekyung in a similar way.
you can still enjoy the story while being HONEST about what’s going on in it. Context is HUGELY and majorly important, but more so are thematic structures and how they relate to culture and reality.
There’s just no need to lie to yourself about the reality of stories we read. that’s literally it. Be critical of media and you can openly consume it.
